Light built in layers. Mother of Pearl, or nacre, is the naturally iridescent material formed along the inner shell of certain molluscs.
Built by Nature
Nacre is a natural organic–inorganic composite and is also the material from which pearls are formed. It is built from microscopic platelets of aragonite, a form of calcium carbonate, arranged in layers with an organic matrix between them.
Why It Shimmers
Mother of Pearl’s iridescence is structural rather than simply a surface colour. Its microscopic layers interact with visible light, reflecting different wavelengths at different viewing angles and producing its characteristic shifting lustre.

Iridescence, tone, pattern, and surface character vary naturally from shell to shell. These differences make every cut individual.
Care
Mother of Pearl should be treated gently. Keep it away from perfume, cosmetics, household chemicals, heat, prolonged moisture, and abrasive surfaces. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
